One of the best rushes you’ll ever get is the knowledge that you’re about to go shopping for your wedding dress. It’s many a young girl’s dream to walk towards Mr Right in a gown that will knock his socks off. Sadly, though, that experience doesn’t always match up to the dream.
“Before I opened my studio, I did some market research,” says Julia Carr, of Elegance Bridal Studio in Barnsley. “I found shops that pack you in alongside every other bride and her mother idea of opening a ‘sole appointment only’ bridal devote my undivided attention to the bride, no-one else can come into the shop and no other brides will be given appointments at the same time. She can try on what she likes in complete privacy.” And with 10 years experience in the bridal industry, Julia knows a thing or two about her customers. “Every single bride should be given the red carpet treatment. I want them to feel, when they come in, that they are the most important person in the world, which they are, to me.” And it’s this philosophy which means that despite being a mere two years old, Elegance Bridal Studio’s reputation is spreading far and wide, with brides travelling long distances for an appointment with Julia. Set in an impressive Victorian villa on the outskirts of Barnsley, the studio is decorated with sumptuous drapes, twinkling chandeliers and comfortable chairs.
And true to Julia’s word, a plush red carpet lies underfoot. Once inside, the place is yours for two whole hours.Another advantage is that Julia has the time to the bride’s body shape and skin tone. It also means that if you’re self-conscious about some size zero model trying on a dress next to you.
“We stock dresses up to size 26. Julia also sells ex-display designer dresses from some of the country’s top names. “It means you can get a fabulous, one-off designer dress for a fraction of the price, just because it has been on display.”
She adds:; “Because we’re not a city centre outlet, we save a lot on our overheads, which we pass on to the customer. People are often pleasantly surprised when they see how affordable our gowns are.” Elegance Bridal Studio also sells bridal accessories such as veils, tiaras, bags, jewellery and bridal underwear.
